Lester Compton – Bedford
Lester Compton, 100, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born April 2, 1911, in Neoga Illinois, he was the son of Orlan and Edna (Lawrence) Compton. He married Ida Flo King on October 23, 1935 and she survives.
He graduated from Orleans High School. He was a farmer. He retired from Ingall’s Stone Mill in Bedford, where he worked as a night watchman and machinery maintenance man. He was a member of the Englewood Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher for 20 years and served as a Deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Ida; one daughter, Jeanette and husband Jerry Smith, of Palmetto, Florida; one granddaughter, Angela Tyquingco, of Clarksville, TN.; one great granddaughter, Brooke Tyquingco and one great grandson, Brendon Tyquingco, both of Clarksville, TN.; two brothers, George Compton, of Hammond and Kenneth Compton, of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 3 brothers.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Englewood Baptist Church, with Pastor David Ferry officiating. Burial will be in Port William Cemetery.
Friends may call on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.at the church.
