Catherine “Anne” Couch – Columbus
Catherine “Anne” Couch, 51, of Columbus, passed away at 3:27 a.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Center.
Born October 3, 1960 in Tucson, AZ., she was the daughter of Williams and Catherine (Leahy) Sears. She married Michael G. Couch on January 17, 2003 and he survives. She was a graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School with the class of 1978. She graduated from Ivy Tech Community College in Columbus in 2010. She was employed at Visteon until she retired in 2008. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and enjoyed remodeling houses.
Survivors include her husband Michael, of Columbus; a son Kent Meinert, of Bloomington; a brother William “Kip” Sears and wife Wendy, of California; a step-son Darryl Couch, of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 14th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Steve Terry and Dale Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, January 13th and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday, January 14th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Gary J. Chase – Bedford
Gary J. Chase, 60, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at IU Health Bedford Hospital.
Born February 7, 1951 in Bedford, he was the son Joe and Delilia (Myers) Chase. He married Sheila Barnett and she survives. He a maintenance worker at U.S. Gypsum and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila of Bedford; two sons, Brandon Chase, of Chicago and Ryan Chase, of Bedford; a daughter, Lindsay Chase, of Ellettsville; four grandchildren, Gwennyth and Aidan Thompson, Owen and Evalyne Chase; one brother Mike Chase, of Bedford; two sisters, Elaine Tarr and Lu Ann Chase, both of Bedford; several nieces and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 14th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 13th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Rita Diane Irwin – Bedford
Rita Diane Irwin, 60, of Bedford, went home to be with the Lord at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital.
Born July 26, 1951 in Bedford, she was the daughter of Harold and Dolly (Sowders) Deckard. Rita married her best friend and love of her life, Danny J. Irwin on November 5, 1988. Rita worked at Core Nursing Home and General Electric until her retirement. She volunteered at Spring Mill State Park as a historic re-enactor for several years.
Rita loved her family and her grandchildren were her greatest joy. Rita was a member of the Mitchell Church of God where she enjoyed working with the youth. She made several trips to the Appalachian Mountains with Life Mission Ministries where she prepared and fed the families who came in search of assistance. She loved to crochet and made Afghans, baby blankets and hats for cancer patients. Little did she know that, one day she herself would become a victim of cancer.
Survivors include her husband, Danny; her parents Harold and Dolly; children, Dan and his wife Nicole Irwin, Lisa and her husband Jim Slone; grandchildren, Casey, Caitlyn and Cameron Irwin, Tanner and Kendall Stone; brothers, Robert and his wife Nancy Deckard, Bill and his wife Janet Deckard; a sister, Melanie Deckard; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and her fur babies, Mikey, Pete and Sissy.
She was preceded in death by her in-laws, George and Elsie Irwin, her grandparents, Everett and Truly Sowders, Ora and Goldie Deckard and her brother, Rusty Deckard.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 14th in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with Randy Corbin and Mike Nicholson officiating. Burial will follow in Gilgal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, January 13th at Day & Carter Mortuary.

Barbara J. “Barb” Shaw – Shoals

Barbara J. “Barb” Shaw, 75, of Shoals, passed away surrounded by her loving family by her side on January, 10, 2012 at the Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born on May 18, 1936 in Martin County to Virgil and Eva (Strawn) Norris. She married William R. “Bill” Shaw on January 30, 1954 at St. John’s Rectory in Loogootee. She attended St. John’s High School in Loogootee. She was a homemaker and was formerly employed by the Loogootee Textile and the Shoals Community School Corp in the cafeteria. Barb was a member of St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Shoals American Legion Auxiliary, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2442 Auxiliary. Her life revolved around her family. Barb was a wonderful wife and mother, and was devoted to her babysitting of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She adored them and they in turn adored their nanny.
Survivors include her husband Bill, of Shoals; sons, Terry and his wife Rheta Shaw, of Shoals, Larry and his wife Annetta Shaw, of Shoals; daughter, Sherry and her husband Jerry Braun, of Shoals; grandchildren, Eric Shaw, Chad Shaw, Jeremy Braun, Jacob Shaw, Joby Shaw, Summer Shaw, Jonah Shaw and Cassidy Shaw; great grandchildren, Aryonna Braun, Maggie Shaw, Carson Shaw, Avaley Braun, Gracie Shaw, Kenley Shaw, Acelyn Braun and Kyra Shaw; sisters, Bertus and her husband Tom Earps, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Kathy Bruner, of Loogootee; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 1, 2012 at the Queen-Lee Funeral Home in Shoals. Eagles Auxiliary will hold a memorial service at 7 p.m. Friday. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father Joseph Erbacher at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2012 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Shoals. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery.
