Elder Harry R. Holt – Mitchell
Elder Harry R. Holt of Mitchell passed away on Thursday, January 27th at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford at the age of 88. Born in 1922 in Lawrence County to Martin VanBuren and Lucinda Holt, he had been married to Christina Brummett since 1946, was a founder of the Church of Jesus Christ in 1959, had been employed at Russell Trucking Company and Jefferson Trucking Company, was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and was the recipient of four bronze stars. He is survived by daughters, Rita Mires and Vickie Brown and her husband Elvis; as well as several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, Jackie Holt; one grandson, Charles Sample; brothers, Ernest, Virgil and Menlo Holt; sisters, Sylvia Tincher and Goldie Milligan; as well as one son-in-law, Frank Mires. Funeral services will be at 2:00PM on Sunday, January 30th at the Church of Jesus Christ with burial to follow in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by the American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. Visitation will be from 3:00PM until 7:00PM on Saturday and from 1:00PM until the hour of service on Sunday at the church.
