The following obituaries were received on Tuesday.


Darrell E. Flynn – Bedford
Darrell E. Flynn of Bedford passed away on Monday, January 3rd at his residence at the age of 80. Born in 1930 in Lawrence County to Floyd and Sarah Flynn, he had been married to Lois Todd since 1952, was a minister for over 40 years and also served as the pastor of Paynetown Pentecostal Church for over 10 years, was retired from NWSC Crane. Darrell was also a traveling evangelist for 30 years, was a veteran of the Korean War serving as staff sergeant in the U.S. Army where he received the purple heart. He is survived by his wife; one son, David Flynn and his wife Patricia; two daughters, Kathy Arthur and her husband Ricky and Lisa Flynn and her husband George; sisters, Louise Page, Carole Baker and Betty Veatch; one brother, Robert Flynn and his wife Phyllis; as well as several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Benny, George and Harold Flynn; three sisters, Irene Flynn, Madeline Thompson and Helen Jones; as well as one grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, January 7th in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with burial to follow in Walkers Chapel Cemetery with military honors accorded graveside. Visitation will be from 4:00PM until 8:00PM on Thursday, January 6th at Day & Carter Mortuary.
Ersie Holmes – Avoca
Ersie Holmes of Avoca passed away on Monday, January 3rd at Westview Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 92. Born in 1918 in Casey County, Kentucky to Samuel and Emily and Sproles, she had been married to Carl Holmes since 1938, was a graduate of Oolitic High School in the class of 1938, was retired from General Motors and was a member of the Avoca Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Carl Holmes and his wife, Carolyn and Gary Holmes and his wife, Jeannie; one daughter, Sharon Deckard and her husband, Phillip; as well as several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Janice Holmes; one son, Layne Holmes; four brothers, James, Sam, William and Henry Sproles; four sisters, Marie Davidson, Pearl Moore Ollie Hicks and Irene Mynatt. Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM on Thursday, January 6th in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with burial to follow in Dishman Cemetery in Greene County. Visitation will be from 4:00PM until 7:00PM on Wednesday, January 5th at Day & Carter Mortuary.
