Thurston E. Scott – Bedford
Thurston E. Scott of Bedford passed away Sunday morning, September 5th at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital at the age of 81. Born in 1929 in Freetown to Clifford and Nora Scott, he had been married to Martha Sherrill since 1952, was a 33 year member of Dive Christian Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a businessman in Bedford. He is survived by his wife, Martha; three daughters, Cheryl Cox and her husband Richard, Paula Rose and her husband Stuart and Nancy Shirley; as well as several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Doyle Imel; two sisters, Marietta McKain and Bernice Collins. Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM on Wednesday, September 8th at Dive Christian Church with burial to follow in Dive Cemetery. Military Rites will be accorded graveside by members of the American Legion Gillen Post #33. Visitation will be from 4:00PM until 8:00PM on Tuesday, September 7th at Dive Christian Church and from 9:00AM until the hour of service on Wednesday.
Louise Barret – Mitchell
Louise Barret of Mitchell passed away Saturday evening, September 4th at her residence at the age of 81. Born in 1928 in Blue Diamond, Kentucky to William and Lillian Irene Aldridge, she had been married to Lee Yother since 1947 and Ira Barrett in 1986. She had been employed at Essex and RCA, was a singer with The Revalations and was a member of the Bride of Christ Fellowship. She is survived by sons, Billy Yother and his wife Rosemary, Jerry Yother; daughter, Theresa Pemberton; as well as one brother, Paul Aldridge and his wife, Betty; sisters, Vicky Hendrix and her husband Junior and Jean Baker and her husband Earnest. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; daughter, Connie Henderson; one brother, Ralph Aldridge and one son-in-law Michael Pemberton. Funeral services will be held at 12:30PM on Thursday, September 9th at the Bride of Christ Fellowship with burial to follow in Lawrenceport Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00PM until 8:00PM on Wednesday and from 10:30AM until the hour of service on Thursday.
Mary Pauline Melvin Saylor – Beech Grove
Mary Pauline Melvin Saylor of Beech Grove passed away Friday evening, September 3rd at Beech Grove Meadows Nursing Home at the age of 103. Born in 1907 in Mitchell to Charles Jean and Carrie Jean, she had been married to Otha Melvin and Gilbert Saylor. Mary grew up in Spring Mill Village which would later become Spring Mill State Park, was a longtime member of the Irvington Seventh Day Adventist Church and was previously a member of the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene and was also employed at Reliance Manufacturing Company. She is survived by one daughter, C. Emagene Allen; one son, Donald Melvin; one step-son, Donald Saylor; brothers, Hugh Jean and Harold Jean; as well as several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; sisters, Thelma Reynolds and Lorena Stevens; brothers, Roscoe, Edgar and Bill Jean. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Tuesday, September 7th in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with burial to follow in Mitchell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00AM until the hour of service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Visitation will be from 4:00PM until 6:00PM on Monday at Chastain Funeral Home.
