Claude Helton, 75, Owensburg

Claude Helton of Owensburg, known to friends and family as Duane passed away Monday at his residence at the age of 75.


Born in 1933 in Orange County to Charles Dewey and Maree (Taylor) Helton, he was a member of the Centreal Church of Christ, worked as a servant at NWSC Crane until his retirement in 1985.
He was a published poet, artist, skilled craftsmen, was a member of the Lawrence County Geneology Society, the American Poets Society, a veteran of the US Navy and had been married to Donna Fields since 1955.
He is survived by his wife; one son, Jim Helton; brother, Bill Boruff; brother-in-law Buddy Fields; sister-in-law, Ann Fields; son-in-law, Bob Bex and his wife Patty; sister-in-law, Beulah Helton; several nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Robin Bex, Jen Bex, Caci Helton, and Nate Helton.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter Claudia J. Bex; brother, Dewey Arthur Helton; brother-in-law, Bryant Fields; father and mother-in-law, Dennie and Lillian Fields as well as a neice and nephew.
Services will be held Thursday at 7:30PM from the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with cremation to follow.
Visitation is Thursday from 3:00PM until the hour of service at 7:30PM at Day & Carter Mortuary.
