Helen Heitger Smith of Bedford passed away yesterday at StoneBridge Health Campus at the age of 96.
Born in 1912 in Phenix, Missouri to Clem and Nell Heitger, Helen worked for the federal government in Indianapolis as an administrative assistant, and worked as the same in Bedford at Bedford Medical Center assisting the president, she also served as both a member and president of the St. Vincent school board, and was a member of the Altar Society, Women’s Department Club, AARP, Bedford Medical Center Auxiliary, and IU Alumni Association.
She is survived by sons David, Joseph and Steve, 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Lyle and son Donald.
Services will be held Saturday morning at 10:00am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with burial to follow at Green Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be tomorrow from 4:00 until 8:00pm at Day & Carter Mortuary.
