VIGO CO. — Indiana State Police are conducting a death investigation following the passing of an individual who was in the custody of the Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division. The incident occurred on Friday, June 28.
The deceased has been identified as Shane Hedden, 48, of West Terre Haute. Hedden was reportedly taken into custody on charges of resisting law enforcement. While in custody, he complained of pain and was transported to a local hospital in Terre Haute. At the hospital, Hedden experienced a medical episode and was later pronounced deceased by medical staff.
Hedden’s family has been notified of his death.
An autopsy has been scheduled for today at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. The official cause of death will be determined by Vigo County Coroner Travis Norris.
The ongoing investigation is being led by Indiana State Police detectives Don Curtis and Sergeant Michael Featherling, with assistance from CSI Sergeant Tim Rader of the Putnamville State Police Post. The Vigo County Coroner’s Office, Department of Natural Resources, and West Terre Haute Police Department are also assisting in the inquiry.
