US Congressional Candidate Rev. Mark J. Powell to Lead Bi-Partisan Multi-Faith Prayerful Protest on Saturday in Bedford

(BEDFORD) – 9th District U.S. Congressional candidate Rev. Mark J. Powell (D-IN) is organizing a “Prayerful Protest” on Saturday, at 1 p.m. at the Lawrence County Courthouse rotunda.

The event will give political and faith leaders a platform to gather and lead the community in united opposition to numerous Nazi pamphlets distributed in Bedford last week.

“I saw the WTHR Channel 13 story Friday morning and I thought to myself if I was the Congressman today what would I do?” Powell stated. “I immediately called Bedford Mayor Sam Craig and with his assistance along with Lawrence County Auditor Jody Edwards we were able to secure the County Courthouse in Bedford for our gathering place with security attending the event.”

“I have invited Republican and Democratic leaders, faith ministers of the Jewish, Muslim and Christian religions, the president of the local chapter of the NAACP to speak and the media to cover what America is …a diverse group of colors, faiths and political beliefs but we are all Americans…we are ONE NATION UNDER GOD with liberty and justice for ALL. That is why I want to hold this event on  Saturday, at 1 p.m. to signify we are ONE. We must move from a politics of fear and division to a politics of love and empathy for one another. Then we will live in a newer America, a better America,” Rev. Powell stated.

Powell has invited his two primary opponents to speak at Saturday’s event as well.

“We need to show America how to be loving and respectful of our political rivals,” Rev. Powell stated.
