Bedford Christmas Around the Square Planning Underway

(BEDFORD) – Bedford Revitalization Inc. is putting the final touches on a cherished holiday tradition – Christmas Around the Square. The event is scheduled for Saturday, December 7th.

The Christmas Market will be set up on J Street between 15th and 16th streets.

Christmas music will fill the air putting everyone in the Christmas spirit

Businesses will be open offering special Christmas deals. Many of the downtown merchants will have festive Christmas window displays. Last year, Turpen & Deckard, CPA, won the window lighting display contest.

The Downtown Depot (at the corner of 14th and J streets) will be busy with activities starting with a free live reindeer exhibit on the front lawn from noon until 3:00 p.m. Young children can take a free ride on the Barrel Train from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Downtown Depot. Elsa and Anna from the movie Frozen will be onsite from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to visit with those attending.

Children can share their Christmas wishes with Santa Claus at the Downtown Depot from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. Free photos will be provided to those visiting with Santa. Photos will be uploaded on BRI’s website by December 10th.

The lighting ceremony will take place in front of the Miss Indiana Statue on the courthouse lawn at 5:30 p.m. with Parade Grand Marshal Mayor Shawna Girgis flipping the switch to light the Christmas tree in Harp Commons.

The Bedford Christmas Parade will step off at 6 p.m.

This year the parade committee picked a general “Christmas” theme to allow parade entries to focus more on their Christmas lighting than a theme. All entries MUST have Christmas Lights incorporated into their design.
