(MITCHELL) – Firefighters from Marion Township and Shawswick Fire Departments battled a mobile home fire Saturday afternoon at the dead-end of Greenwood Retreat Road.
Around 2:19 p.m. the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department received several 911 calls reporting a large amount of black smoke in the area of Greenwood Retreat Road.
When firefighters from Shawsick Township arrived they found a vacant single-wide abandoned mobile home fully engulfed in flames.
Marion Township Fire Department took command of the scene.
The home is owned by Richard Gaines.
“The fire was brought under control quickly,” said Marion VFD Chief Paul Gillespie. “There were no injuries and no other loss of property. The residence involved was heavily damaged by the fire.”
Chief Gillespie requested the Indiana State Fire Marshal be called to investigate.
“Due to the nature of the fire and the numerous calls we have had to that area, the State Fire Marshal’s office has been contacted and the cause remains under investigation at this time,” Chief Gillespie added. “If anybody has any information about this fire I encourage them to contact either the fire department or the sheriff’s department detectives.”
