Alan Lee Wood, 73, of Mitchell, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at Indiana University Health Hospice House in Bloomington.
Born February 9, 1946, in Mitchell, he was the son of Lowell and Betty Jane (Cook) Wood. He married Cheryl McKinney June 14, 1968.
Alan retired from Mitchell Community Schools where he served as a very loved teacher, football and track coach, and administrator. He was a 1964 graduate of Mitchell High School, a 1968 graduate of Indiana State University, and received his administrative license from Indiana University. Alan attended the First Baptist Church.
He enjoyed his grandkids, and always liked talking to everyone. After retirement, friends knew where to find him….on his front porch swing.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Wood of Mitchell; children, Kyley Alan (Shannon) Wood of Jasper, Courtney Laine (Scotty) Moore of Mitchell, Lori Renee (Jason) Zeeks of Mitchell and 14 grandchildren
His parents and sister, Glenda Sue Geyer, preceded him in death.
A Celebration of Life will be from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday at the Mitchell High School Auditorium.
