Robert Wayne Stearns – Mitchell
Robert Wayne Stearns, 76, of Mitchell, passed away at 12:32 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.
Born February 6, 1936, in Mitchell, he was the son of Jason and Georgia (Skaggs) Stearns. He was a truck driver. Robert was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and a member of the American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
Survivors include his daughters, Michelle Kemp, of Campbellsburg, Kelly Barlow, of Mitchell; siblings, Norma Jean Foster, of Tipton, Tennessee, Shirley Cole, of California, Delores Hopper, of Mitchell; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Alan Stearns and Robert Stearns II; brothers, Raymond Stearns, Ronald Stearns, and Roger Davis.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, July 9 at Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday at Haverly Chapel Funeral & Cremation Services.
Willis John Braun – Shoals
Willis John Braun, 82, of Shoals, passed away at 5:12 a.m. at I.U. Health Paoli Hospital. He was born June 4, 1930 in Huntington, Indiana to Harry and Caroline (Krodel) Braun. He married Carla Dant on December 31, 1955, on New Year’s Eve at St. John’s Lutheran Church Dubois Crossroads.
Upon completion of his schooling, he joined his father working on the family farm. He entered the United States Army and served in the Korean War, returning to Shoals in 1954 as a Cpt. Upon his return from the service, he worked for Lee Floor Company for six years, installing tile and hardwood flooring for the French Lick Hotels and school gyms. He then started a career with National Gypsum and retired in 1993, after 35 years of service. He was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Loogootee, Shoals American Legion Post 61, Shoals V.F.W Post 8589, Indiana Sheriff’s Association and the Indiana State Police Alliance. He will be greatly missed by his family.
He is survived by his wife Carla Braun, of Shoals; son Brand and wife Karen Broun, of Bloomington; daughter, Annette and husband Larry Shaw, of Shoals; 3 granddaughters, Kimberly Braun, Summer Shaw and Cassidy Shaw, whom were the light of his life; one sister, Betty Ervin, of Plainfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Curtis and Cleo Braun and one sister Artis Bowling.
Visitation will be on Monday, July 9, 2012 at the Queen-Lee Funeral Home in Shoals from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday until the hour of service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. American Legion Post 61 will accord military graveside rites.
Preferred expressions of sympathy may be made to Loogootee St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Michael Lee Lane Jr – Owensburg

Michael Lee Lane Jr., 25, of Owensburg, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at his home.
Born January 10, 1987 in Lawrence County, he was the son of Michael C. Lee Sr. and Debbie (Covey) Lane. He was a landscape and maintenance worker.
Survivors include his parents, Michael and Debbie Lane, of Owensburg; a sister Megan Lane, of Owensburg; a brother, Dustin Covey; his girlfriend, Jessica Page, of Owensburg; his paternal grandparents, Susan Beavers and mike Beavers, of Owensburg, Michael and Janice Lane, of Bedford; his maternal grandparents, Thelma Carter and Gene Carter of Linton; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2012 at Greene Hill Cemetery. Burial will follow. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 9th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Peggy D. Hartzell – Mitchell

Peggy D. Hartzell, 82, of Mitchell, passed away at 2:50 a.m. on Friday, July 6, 2012 at Bliss House in Bedford.
Born October 12, 1929 in Oolitic, she was the daughter of Chester Wayne and Cora (Duncan) Lewis. She married Buford D. “Bud” Hartzell Jr. in 1952 and he preceded her in death on June 17, 2011. She was a homemaker; a member of the First Christian Church in Mitchell and president of the Opera House in Mitchell.
Survivors include one son, Mark and wife Elena Hartzell, of Mitchell; one grandson, Nathan Hartzell, of Mitchell; one sister, Rita Lewis Pinney, of Mitchell and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bud Hartzell and her son, Doug Hartzell in 1997.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be considered to the Opera House in Mitchell.
