HELTONVILLE — A Heltonville woman was arrested last week after state parole agents and county deputies conducting a scheduled home visit discovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia inside her camper, according to court documents.
Brittany Carter, 32, faces preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia following the October 22, 2026, incident at 6820 State Road 58 E.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Deputy Michael Martin of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, central dispatch notified deputies of an agency assist call at approximately 4:22 p.m. on Oct. 22.
Indiana State Parole agents Jacquelyn Buchanan and Shaunna Aders were conducting a scheduled home visit at Carter’s residence. Upon entering Carter’s camper, parole agents observed suspected drug paraphernalia on a nightstand next to the bed and promptly placed Carter in handcuffs.
Lawrence County deputies arrived shortly thereafter to assist parole agents with the search.
Search Uncovers Meth and Prohibited Items
During a further search of the camper, Agent Buchanan located a glass smoking device inside the top drawer of the nightstand. Deputy Martin noted that the device contained a crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
Authorities also recovered another glass device, which Carter stated was a “stem” used for smoking THC “dab” wax, as well as sharp-edged weapons and firearm ammunition. Parole agents advised that Carter was strictly prohibited from possessing weapons or ammunition under the terms of her parole.
Additionally, a clear baggie containing a white powdery substance and a cut straw was found on the kitchen counter. When questioned, Carter stated she was unsure what the powder was; field tests for methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, and fentanyl all returned negative results. The powdery substance was logged to be destroyed.
When questioned about the contraband, Carter claimed she was unaware the items were inside the camper, stating that her husband was supposed to have cleaned everything out.
Carter was transported and booked into the Lawrence County Jail without incident.
