Seymour Fire Department partnering with Local Home Depot to distribute free carbon monoxide detectors

SEYMOUR — The Seymour Fire Department (SFD) is distributing free carbon monoxide detectors to local residents following a major donation from the Seymour Home Depot.

The store provided the department with the life-saving devices through a special, one-time donation program. Firefighters are distributing the alarms directly to community members to help keep local families safe.

Pickup Location and Hours

Community members can pick up a free carbon monoxide detector at the Seymour Fire Department Headquarters:

  • Location: 1019 West Second Street, Seymour, IN
  • Distribution Hours: Monday through Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Availability: Available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

The Importance of Carbon Monoxide Alarms

Carbon monoxide (CO) is an odorless, colorless, and tasteless gas produced whenever fuel is burned in appliances such as furnaces, water heaters, stoves, or generators. Because it cannot be seen or smelled, functioning carbon monoxide detectors are critical for detecting dangerous leaks before symptoms occur.

Fire officials emphasize that working CO alarms give households the early warning needed to safely evacuate during an emergency.

“A huge thanks to our friends at the Seymour Home Depot,” the Seymour Fire Department said in a statement. “Through a special, one-time donation opportunity, they provided our department with these important life-saving devices. We are incredibly grateful for their generosity and continued commitment to the safety of our community.”
