COLUMBUS — A 22-year-old Bartholomew County man faces six preliminary felony charges after allegedly battering his live-in girlfriend and threatening her and their young child with a firearm during an overnight dispute.
The suspect, identified as David Sindlinger of Columbus, was taken into custody on Monday following an investigation by the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department.

According to authorities, deputies began investigating around 4:30 p.m. on Monday after the victim escaped the residence—located in the 11000 block of South County Road 800W—and ran to a neighbor’s house to call for emergency assistance.
The victim reported that the domestic dispute had begun late Sunday night and continued into the early morning hours of Monday. During the altercation, Sindlinger allegedly battered and strangled her, confined her, and pointed a firearm at both her and their child.
Following Sindlinger’s arrest, investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence. During the search, deputies located and seized a firearm along with suspected cocaine and narcotics inside the home.
Sindlinger was booked into the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges of domestic battery in the presence of a minor, strangulation, criminal confinement, intimidation with a deadly weapon, and dealing and possession of cocaine.
Deputies emphasized that the investigation remains preliminary and ongoing.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent until proven guilty through a fair and due legal process. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
