HOPE — A 43-year-old Hope man was arrested late Tuesday night after allegedly pointing a firearm at another person during a domestic disturbance.
According to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, deputies and officers with the Hope Police Department responded at approximately 10:15 p.m. to a home in the 600 block of Washington Street following reports of a disturbance involving a firearm.

Investigators determined that an argument had initially broken out between Steven Pickett and his daughter. According to authorities, the verbal dispute escalated until Pickett displayed and pointed a firearm at another individual present at the scene.
Deputies noted that Pickett appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Pickett was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Bartholomew County Jail on a $500,000 bond. He faces preliminary charges of Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon and Criminal Recklessness.
The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to the Hope Police Department for their assistance during the call. Authorities emphasized that the case remains an ongoing preliminary investigation.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent until proven guilty through a fair and due legal process. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
