INDIANA — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has escalated a nationwide recall involving a popular brand of plant-based butter, assigning it a Class II health risk classification following concerns over potential contamination with yeast, mold, and E. coli.

The recall, originally initiated on Sept. 11 by Boise, Idaho-based Prosperity Organic Foods, Inc., impacts 1,304 cases of Miyoko’s Creamery European Style Salted Plant Milk Butter.
The FDA designated the situation a Class II recall, a classification defined by the agency as a situation where exposure or use of a violative product “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences,” or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.
