COLUMBUS — Ivy Tech Community College Columbus has named Dr. Julie Bilz as the campus’s first-ever Professor Emerita, honoring her decades of service, leadership, and dedication to higher education.

The prestigious title of Professor Emerita is awarded to faculty members who have achieved the rank of Professor, demonstrated extensive teaching experience at Ivy Tech, and made meritorious contributions to the college, their academic discipline, and the surrounding community.
Dr. Bilz first joined Ivy Tech as an adjunct faculty member in 2005 before transitioning into a full-time role in 2009. Throughout her career, she focused on preparing future educators while actively working to strengthen academic programs, mentor fellow faculty members, and enhance the overall student experience.
Beyond her work in the classroom, Bilz served as the campus Faculty Council lead and represented the Columbus campus on numerous statewide curriculum and academic committees.
“This recognition reflects the lasting impact she has made on our students, faculty, and institution,” said Dr. Jackie Fischer, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Ivy Tech Columbus.
While Dr. Bilz is retiring from her full-time position, she will not be stepping away from the classroom entirely. She plans to continue teaching on a part-time basis at Ivy Tech, allowing future students to continue benefiting from her expertise and mentorship.
