INDIANA— Governor Mike Braun and Attorney General Todd Rokita have issued a joint warning to Indiana residents regarding a sophisticated phone scam targeting licensed professionals. Fraudsters are using “spoofed” phone numbers to make incoming calls appear as though they originate from the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (PLA).
The callers use fear, urgency, and threats of immediate license suspension or legal action to pressure victims into handing over sensitive personal data, such as Social Security numbers and financial details.
State leaders emphasized that real PLA staff will never demand immediate payment, threaten credential suspension, or request personal information over the phone.
What to do if you receive a suspicious call:
- Hang up immediately and do not provide any personal or financial information.
- Do not trust caller ID alone, as scammers can easily fake official phone numbers.
- Contact the agency directly using verified contact information found on the official website at in.gov/pla.
- Report attempted scams to the Office of the Indiana Attorney General by filing an online consumer complaint or calling 1-800-382-5516.
