Bedford police were dispatched to IU Health Bedford Hospital’s emergency room at approximately 12:51 a.m. Oct. 8 after receiving a report that a man had been stabbed.

According to an affidavit prepared by Officer Chase Hamilton, the man told police he had been out with his wife and a female friend earlier in the evening. He said an argument developed after the friend allegedly touched his wife inappropriately.

The man told police he was driving a blue GMC Acadia east on Fifth Street near K Street when his wife began hitting him. He pulled over near Becky’s Place at 1108 Fifth St., and she exited the vehicle, saying she intended to walk home.

The affidavit states that the man drove around the block and returned because he was concerned about her walking home while intoxicated. When he attempted to get her back into the vehicle, she stabbed him, according to his account. He later noticed he was bleeding and went to the hospital for treatment. Officers documented a laceration on the left side of his abdomen.

Doss provided a different account, telling police that her husband grabbed her and attempted to force her into the vehicle, punched her in the face, and grabbed her jacket. She initially denied having a knife in her hand but later said she may have stabbed him while trying to get away, according to the affidavit.

Officers went to the couple’s home on Tunnelton Road and arrested Doss. She showed officers a folding Gerber pocketknife with a black handle and metallic blade near her bed and agreed to let them take it as evidence.

Detective Major Louden obtained security camera footage from Becky’s Place. According to the affidavit, the video showed the GMC Acadia pulling over near the sidewalk at approximately 11:25 p.m. Oct. 7. The footage appeared to show a woman in the passenger seat repeatedly striking the driver before exiting the vehicle and walking east on Fifth Street.

Doss was transported to the Bedford Police Department for processing and then to the Lawrence County Jail. She was taken into custody on Oct. 8.

The charges are allegations, and Doss is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
