ELLETTSVILLE – Bedford North Lawrence closed the regular season with a 4-1 victory over Edgewood during boys high school tennis action on Monday.
The Stars (7-10) swept the singles while ending a five-match losing streak.
”The drought is finally over and I see sunshine, maybe some lollipops, definitely some rainbows, basically everything that’s wonderful,” BNL coach Ian Dillman said. “It’s a great win to cap off our regular season.”
Laedon Jones set the tone with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ryne Klinger at No.1 singles, Aden Ralston conquered Landon East 6-4, 6-3 at No.2, while Levi Thompson rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Caleb Garrett at No.3.
”Laedon had one of his best matches of the year,” Dillman said. “He was looking good and playing good, he led both sets and didn’t look back. His serves were on point. Aden’s first set was tight and he wasn’t feeling the ball well. He was able to settle down and find his form in the second set, and started going for more in his shots.
”Levi played another fabulous match. He was ripping on the ball and his form looked amazing. His movement on that court was noticeably different than at the beginning of this season. He looks like a new person out there at times.”
In doubles, BNL’s Jackson Corey and Asher Thompson disposed of Sammy Paul and Zane Walcott 6-2, 6-2.
“They were strong and steady in their match,” Dillman said. “The beginning of each set was tight, but once they found a rhythm they were golden. Both of their games complement one another. Asher is aggressive at the baseline and Jackson’s domination at the net is killer.”
The Mustangs took No.2 doubles as Liam Kersten and Jackson Wells topped the new pairing of Trey Kiser and Riley Pruett 6-1, 6-0.
BNL will host the IHSAA sectional and face Jennings County in the first round on Tuesday.
