Gwenlyn Kay Stigall, 79, of Bedford, IN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at IU Health Bedford Hospital, with her family by her side. Gwen was born September 17, 1947, in Bedford, IN, to Hayden Gwin and Wanda Lucille (Houchin) Stigall. She was a 1965 graduate of Fayetteville High School.
Gwen began her working career at the Bloomington Water Company, where she worked for several years. She later spent more than 20 years as an over-the-road truck driver before going to work in Human Resources for Indiana University in Bloomington, where she remained until her retirement.
Gwen was a member of Hillcrest Christian Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles 1095 in Bloomington. She loved life and enjoyed cooking, decorating her home, shopping, and going out to eat with family and friends. She also cherished caring for her beloved fur babies. Gwen will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Gwen is survived by her sisters, Kathy (Jim) Staley of Oolitic, IN, and Mona (Rick) Lewis of Brownstown, IN; her aunt, Jeanne Houchin of Vincennes, IN; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; her wonderful caregivers, Emily (Michael) Anderson; and her beloved fur baby, Shadow.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hayden and Wanda Stigall; her sister, Becky Fowler, and her husband, Bob; her nephew, Jeremy Fowler; and her fur baby, Zoee.
Cremation has been chosen. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, October 2, 2026, at Hillcrest Christian Church, 1130 Hillcrest Rd., Bedford, IN 47421, with Pastor Mark Fugate officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM till time of service on Friday, October 2, 2026, also at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hillcrest Christian Church, American Diabetes Association, or the Lawrence County Humane Society.
