SALEM – Bedford North Lawrence’s wildfire roared through Salem as the Stars rolled to a 10-0 mercy-rule victory during girls high school soccer action on Tuesday.
Jenna Mullis scored five goals as BNL (7-4-1) extended its sensational streak to eight games without a loss. Summer Hughes added three goals for the Stars, who erupted to a 9-0 lead at halftime.
“We played as a competitive team,” BNL coach Jordan Himmelspach said. “We went out and moved the ball as a team, communicated as a team and won the game as a team.”
Mullis ignited the blaze with a goal at 33:22, and Hughes found the net at 30:56. BNL maintained the attack with goals by Mullis (24:59), two by Hughes (24:20 and 18:55 for her hat trick), and another from Mullis (13:52 to complete her hat trick). Mullis scored again at 3:26, Roslyn Himmelspach got on the board at 2:46, and Mullis finished the flurry with 59 seconds left.
BNL’s final goal was an own goal with 31:20 left before the match was halted with 20 minutes remaining in the second half.
“We corrected some issues that bogged us down in our previous game,” Himmelspach said. “For us to continue to play at this level, we have to be able to identify mistakes as a team and recover. I’m proud of these young ladies with their drive and dedication.”
BNL will host Silver Creek on Saturday.
