SPENCER – Bedford North Lawrence continued its hot streak, cruising to a 5-1 victory over Owen Valley during girls high school soccer action on Monday.
The Stars (6-4-1) pushed their run to seven consecutive matches without a loss. They’ve outscored their opponents 26-4 during that impressive span.
Summer Hughes started the scoring at 15:45 of the first half, converting a Benny Gould pass. Gould gave the Stars a second goal with 3:10 left.
In the second half, BNL extended its lead with goals from Gould (29:00, with a Madalyn Mason assist) and Jenna Mullis (23:33). The Stars added an own goal from a Mullis corner with 7:15 left. The Patriots scored off a direct free kick with five minutes remaining.
”We came away with a win, which we will always count as a positive,” BNL coach Jordan Himmelspach said. “Benny Gould had a fantastic night for us, playing as the right wing with two goals and an assist.
”We are playing a shallow bench due to some illnesses and injuries, and had a chance to see some players in different positions. Getting the opportunity to see how players can fit in different positions allows us to stay flexible and adapt in the future. We felt we could have played more competitively, and the girls are ready to go out and prove themselves again.”
BNL will visit Salem on Tuesday.
