William “Billboy” Heckard, 75, of Bloomington, formerly of Shoals, passed away in the loving arms of his family and loved ones on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Red Crest Hospice House, Bloomington.
Born September 16, 1951, in Shoals, he was the son of William N. and Delphia (Sims) Heckard. Billboy graduated from Shoals High School class of 1969. He married Rita Ashcraft on November 7, 1987, and she survives.
Billboy worked at the Indiana Department of Motor Vehicles. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He enjoyed horse racing, the New York Mets, watching his grandchildren play sports, and playing cards.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Rita; children, Boomer (Amanda) Heckard and Casey Heckard, and their mother, Rosalee Bateman; son, Travis (Destiny) Ashcraft; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Grace Dunlap, Cathy (Calvin) Evans, Norman (Sharon) Heckard, Darwin Heckard, and Rick Heckard; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Pete Dunlap.
Funeral service will be at Noon on Monday, September 21, 2026, at the Queen-Lee Chapel of George Funeral Care in Shoals. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Shoals American Legion. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Monday, at the Queen-Lee Chapel.
