MITCHELL — An 18-year-old Orleans woman was arrested late Friday night after police responded to a reported domestic disturbance that left one woman injured and property damaged.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Mitchell Police Officer Cody Blackwell, officers responded at approximately 11:30 p.m. on September 11, 2026, to a residence in the 400 block of South 7th Street regarding a physical domestic altercation.
Upon arrival, Officer Blackwell met with Brooklynn Leatherman, 18, of Orleans, alongside two other females. Officers observed that Leatherman’s mother’s eyeglasses were broken at the frame joint. Witnesses at the scene informed police that Leatherman had struck her mother in the face.
While Officer Blackwell escorted Leatherman across the street to interview her, Leatherman repeatedly stated that she had punched her mother in the face, maintaining throughout the interaction that she wanted to tell the truth.
During the investigation, a female reported that she had attempted to step in while Leatherman was striking her mother and was subsequently struck in the arm. Both victims requested to press charges, and Officer Phillip Emery obtained signed battery affidavits from the victims.
Leatherman was arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Jail on charges of domestic battery and battery.
Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
