Hoosiers encouraged to share hope and awareness on National 988 Day

INDIANA State mental health advocates are calling on Indiana residents to mark National 988 Day on September 8 by spreading awareness about the state’s 24/7 mental health crisis hotline.

Observed annually on September 8 (9/8) in connection with the three-digit dialing code, National 988 Day focuses on raising public awareness, reducing stigma around mental health, and reminding individuals that support is always accessible. The theme for this year’s initiative, “988 Reasons: Your reason is reason enough,” highlights that no issue is too small to reach out for help.

Free, Confidential Support Available Around the Clock

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline offers free, confidential, and judgment-free support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Trained crisis specialists are available to assist anyone experiencing emotional distress, thoughts of suicide, a mental health episode, or a substance use crisis.

Individuals in need can connect with help through multiple channels:

  • Call or Text: Dial or text 9-8-8 from any phone.
  • Online Chat: Visit 988indiana.org to chat online with a crisis specialist.

How to Get Involved
