SPRINGVILLE — The Lawrence County Independent School (LCIS) 5th Grade volleyball team earned its first victory of the season on Tuesday, September 1, defeating Eastern Greene in straight sets.
The young Lions swept the match with commanding performances in both sets, securing a 25–15 victory in the opening set before closing out the win 25–12 in the second.
Head Coach Kelsey Mikels praised the team’s growth and cohesive play following the match, noting that the players demonstrated exceptional determination and mutual support throughout the contest.
“They played hard, supported one another, and showed incredible dedication, teamwork, and determination,” Mikels said. “Their hard work at practice is starting to pay off, and we couldn’t be more proud of them!”
While the 5th Grade squad captured the win, the LCIS 6th and 7th Grade teams also delivered competitive performances on the court. Despite coming up short on the scoreboard, both upper-grade rosters displayed strong sportsmanship and resilience against tough Eastern Greene lineups.
“Our 6th and 7th Grade teams may not have come away with a win, but they played hard, stayed determined, and held their own on the court,” Mikels added. “Their effort and sportsmanship were something to be proud of. Way to go, LCIS Volleyball!”
With momentum from their initial win, the LCIS volleyball program continues its regular season schedule as all three grade-level teams return to practice to prepare for upcoming matches.
