North Daviess rolls to 4-1 victory over BNL

Levi Thompson recorded the lone win for BNL during tennis action at North Daviess.

ELNORA – North Daviess swept the doubles while stopping Bedford North Lawrence 4-1 during boys high school tennis action on Saturday.

The Cougars won a third-set battle at No.1 doubles and dominated the top singles matches to thwart the Stars, who fell to 5-4 with back-to-back setbacks during a turbulent week.

“It was not a good week for us,” BNL coach Ian Dillman said. “First the heatwave, followed up with two losses to two tough opponents. I’d like to forget about this week as soon as possible, and I know the guys feel the same way. Our biggest challenges were the heat, wind and footwork. I’ll blame the heat on our lack of footwork.”

BNL’s lone win came at No.3 singles as Levi Thompson rolled to a 6-4, 6-0 triumph over Briceton Terrell.

North Daviess cruised on the other singles courts. Keon Stoll topped Laedon Jones 6-0, 6-0 at No.1, while Rex Freed handled Aden Ralston 6-0, 6-0 at No.2.

In doubles, Charlie Schulte and Carson Loheider fought off BNL’s Jackson Corey and Asher Thompson 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 in a competitive clash at No.1. Kelton Graber and Kaleb Waller rolled past Trey Kiser and Traeden Robinson 6-1, 6-1 at No.2.

“We were slow and sluggish and not able to find the ball on the court,” Dillman said. “We kept going back to old habits and those kill us every time. Overall, this just wasn’t our day. This break we have until our next match, we will be focusing on finding peace of mind on the court – along with moving those feet.”

BNL will travel to Brownstown on Thursday.
