Kaml powers Highlanders to 9-1 win over BNL

GALENA – Amelia Kaml scored five goals while powering Floyd Central to a 9-1 victory over Bedford North Lawrence during girls high school soccer action on Tuesday night.

The Highlanders (2-1, 1-0 in the Hoosier Hills Conference) broke to a 4-0 lead in the first half before BNL’s Jenna Mullis connected with 2:24 left. Floyd answered with five straight goals in the second half to pull away.

Kaml scored three straight times in the first half, and added two more midway through the second. Floyd’s other goals came from Emma Lawless, Avery Conroy, and Heidi Duncan (two late goals to cap the scoring).

”We played a functional game with a lot of improvement in many positions,” BNL coach Jordan Himmelspach said. “We played with tenacity and poise, even when the game fell heavily in Floyd’s favor.”

The Stars (0-2, 0-1 in the HHC) will return to action on Thursday, hosting White River Valley.
