BEDFORD — Bedford Police officers arrested a 22-year-old man who is facing multiple felony charges following an investigation into an early-morning domestic altercation that left a victim injured.
Grayson A. Ketcham was arrested Saturday night, August 22. He faces charges of strangulation, domestic battery, and two counts of battery in the presence of a minor.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Bedford Police Officer Steven Hatton Jr., the investigation began around 1:06 p.m. on Aug. 22, when officers were dispatched to the IU Health Bedford Hospital emergency room.
A female victim reported that she had been in a physical altercation with Ketcham earlier that morning at approximately 3:00 a.m. after he arrived home intoxicated without a shirt. The victim stated that when she questioned him, Ketcham became angry, attempted to break her phone, and elbowed her in the chest.
During the confrontation, Ketcham allegedly pushed the victim to the ground, placed his hands around her neck, and restricted her airflow, reportedly telling her he “did not care and would kill her” when she stated she could not breathe.
The affidavit states that after the victim escaped into another room, Ketcham forced entry, slapped her across the face, causing her glasses to fall off, and choked her a second time. The victim sustained red marks, severe bruising, and scratches on her right arm before fleeing the residence to call a relative for help. Two young children were present inside the home during the incident.
Police gathered photographic evidence of the victim’s injuries, assisted her with emergency protective order procedures, and notified the Indiana Department of Child Services. Information regarding Ketcham’s vehicle and employment was initially routed to neighboring law enforcement agencies to assist in locating him.
Later that evening, at approximately 10:11 p.m., Bedford Police Officer Haluda initiated a traffic stop involving Ketcham’s vehicle. Ketcham was taken into custody for the earlier battery allegations.
Following a medical clearance at IU Health Bedford Hospital, Ketcham was transported to the Lawrence County Jail.
