GALENA – Bedford North Lawrence suffered its first loss as Floyd Central cruised to a 9-0 victory during boys high school soccer action on Saturday.
The Highlanders (1-1-1) scored five first-half goals and four more in the second to trigger the mercy-rule finish with 18 minutes left. The Stars slipped to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the Hoosier Hills Conference.
”Despite the result against a strong Floyd side, our team showed real determination and flashes of quality,” BNL coach Reeve Arce said. “Facing a bigger, faster opponent, we competed hard and controlled the opening five minutes, dictating play and creating clear chances. That early promise offers encouraging signs and valuable experience.”
BNL played without Ezra Clark, who had scored goals in the first two games. Clark was out injured and is expected to miss two weeks. The Stars also lost three starters with injuries during the contest.
The Stars will host Bloomington South on Tuesday.
