Stars show depth with 5-0 win over Mitchell

BNL’s Ian Wilcher posted a goal and an assist during Thursday’s win at Mitchell.

MITCHELL – Bedford North Lawrence generated goals from five different scorers while conquering Mitchell 5-0 during boys high school soccer action on Thursday.

Ian Wilcher and Barrett Holtz both recorded a goal and an assist as the Stars (2-0) won their road opener.

Wilcher cranked home a goal in the second minute, and Holtz broke through midway through the first half. Weston Holtz gave BNL a three-goal advantage with a shot off a Wilcher pass late in the half.

The Stars pulled away with second-half goals by Ezra Clark (off a Barrett Holtz assist) and Zaden Roodschild (penalty kick) before employing most of the reserves for the final 12 minutes.

”The team came out slow, adapting to the different field surface, then started to pull the game together,” BNL coach Reeve Arce said. “We were successful distributing the ball, demonstrating depth with five different scorers.

”Our young freshman group finished the game strong. The team is growing and gelling well.”

BNL totaled 23 shots.

The Stars will visit Floyd Central for their Hoosier Hills Conference opener on Saturday.

BNL goalie Owen Williams and the Stars recorded a shutout of the Bluejackets.
