WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced it has secured a record-high $10.44 billion in pharmaceutical price reductions during fiscal year 2026. The agency noted that this total marks nearly double the cost reductions achieved during the final year of the Biden administration.
The cost-containment initiative was launched under the second Trump administration to negotiate lower prices on the prescription medications most frequently utilized across the VA system. According to the agency, the resulting savings will allow the VA to expand healthcare access and allocate resources toward high-cost, emerging medical therapies.
The department’s negotiated pharmaceutical price reductions have tracked upward over recent fiscal cycles:
- FY 2024: $5.23 billion
- FY 2025: $7.99 billion
- FY 2026 (To Date): $10.44 billion

“Under President Trump, VA is racking up huge wins for Veterans and taxpayers by demanding a better deal from pharmaceutical companies,” said VA Secretary Doug Collins. “Our team already provides world-class care for Veterans, and through smart, tough negotiations with drugmakers, we will continue to deliver more care and better care than ever before.”
