Dustin Bradley Fender, 36, of Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at his residence.
Born July 26, 1990, in Bedford, Indiana, he was the son of Cindy Fender (Keith Asbell) and Jackie Fender (Jodie).
Dustin was a graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School and Purdue University, where he earned a degree in electrical engineering and later completed his master’s degree.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his parents, Cindy Fender (Keith Asbell) and Jackie Fender (Jodie); fiancée Alexsandra Salazar; brother Corey Inman (Ashley); stepbrothers Evan Martin (Kimmy), Brady Martin (Rose), and Noah (Carlie); stepsister Sidney Woods (Justice); grandmother Diane Cheek; aunts Patty New (Tim) and LaDonna Fender; and several nieces and nephews.
The Life of Dustin Fender
Dustin’s life was far too short, but the impact he made on everyone who knew and loved him will never be forgotten. He was a beloved son, stepson, brother, grandson, nephew, uncle, fiancé, and friend who brought his own special light and presence into the lives of so many.
Dustin was a perfectionist in everything he did. His motto was, “I do it perfect, or I don’t do it at all.” Whether he was cooking a meal with perfected taste and presentation—something he truly enjoyed doing for others—or working on the intricate details of his electrical engineering projects, he put thought, patience, and pride into everything he touched. He had a natural curiosity and a remarkable ability to understand how things worked, and he found great satisfaction in creating, improving, and doing things the right way.
Dustin would light up a room when he walked in. All loved him, and he always seemed to have a smile on his face. His laugh was contagious—so much so that you could find yourself laughing right along with him before you even knew what he was laughing about. His heart and his joy were genuine, and his presence made people feel happy simply because he was there.
Golf was his favorite activity. He played on the BNL High School Men’s Golf Team, and one year he was the only member of his team to qualify for and compete in the state finals, an accomplishment that reflected his dedication, talent, and determination. He also won the Bedford City Golf Tournament.
Dustin also received golf scholarship offers, allowing him to continue playing at the collegiate level. Ultimately, he chose to pursue his passion for electrical engineering at Purdue University, where he excelled academically and earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Dustin spoke extremely fondly of Purdue, and when he talked about his time there, you could see the passion reflected in his beautiful blue eyes. Purdue was a place that deeply shaped him, and he carried a genuine pride and love for the university throughout his life.
Dustin especially loved sharing his passion for golf with his friends. He enjoyed teaching them how to play and was always patient and encouraging. Even when a friend accidentally broke one of Dustin’s beloved golf clubs, Dustin could still laugh about it.
His friend kindly offered to repair the club, turning what could have been a frustrating moment into another story and memory they could share. Those little moments of laughter, friendship, and kindness are the memories that will be cherished forever.
Dustin loved experiencing new things and making memories with the people he loved. He recently visited New Jersey and New York City with his fiancée and her sweet family, seeing the city for the very first time. He had the time of his life exploring, taking in the sights, and experiencing all the new and fascinating things around him. Most importantly, he was able to share this unforgettable experience with the people he loved, creating precious memories that will forever hold a special place in their hearts.
He cherished spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Muggsy. He was learning Spanish and enjoyed getting his hands dirty with both indoor and outdoor projects. His many interests reflected his creativity, intelligence, curiosity, and love of learning.
Though his time with us was far too brief, Dustin leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be treasured forever. His smile, his contagious laugh, his kindness, his talents, and the genuine joy he brought into the lives of others will live on in the hearts of everyone who loved him.
Dustin will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 16th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Brady New officiating. Burial will follow in Dive Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
