BEDFORD — A Princeton man wanted on an out-of-state warrant was arrested Wednesday after allegedly threatening to shoot a bank teller inside a local Walmart and showing her a loaded firearm magazine.
Andrew Humphrey, 43, was booked into the Lawrence County Jail on charges of intimidation with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Bedford Police Officer James Ball responded on Aug. 4 to the Woodforest National Bank branch inside the Walmart on John Williams Boulevard. A bank teller reported that Humphrey approached the counter, set down his bag, and claimed to have a “police-issued Walther”. He then allegedly stated, “With this, I could put four in your head, and you’d be dead,” before displaying what appeared to be a gun magazine.
Bank staff told officers Humphrey also threatened to deploy a cyber virus against the bank’s servers before leaving. The incident prompted the teller to press charges and quit her job, according to police.
The following afternoon, Aug. 5, bank employees notified police after spotting Humphrey return to the store. Officer Ball located Humphrey’s red truck pulling into a parking space in the 3000 block of John Williams Boulevard and initiated a stop.
Upon exiting his vehicle, Humphrey asked officers, “Is this about the gun?” After being detained and read his rights, Humphrey admitted to pulling the magazine out of his gun at the bank counter and showing it to the teller, though he denied uttering direct threats.
A search of Humphrey’s bag conducted by Sgt. Crulo yielded a black Walther 0.43-caliber CO2-powered pistol and a container of rubber-steel ammunition.
Police noted that Humphrey claimed to have approximately 30 prior felonies. Authorities also confirmed he is actively wanted on an outstanding warrant for terroristic threats out of Galveston County, Texas.
Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
