BEDFORD — A Bloomington man on probation was arrested late Monday night after police responded to a reported domestic dispute in a gas station parking lot.
Austin C. Robertson, 25, faces a public intoxication charge following the Aug. 3 incident.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Bedford Police Officer Clay Blackburn was dispatched around 11:46 p.m. to the Circle K gas station in the 700 block of 16th Street. Officers located a red Chevrolet Cruze parked outside the open business, where Robertson was seated in the passenger seat.
Officer Blackburn requested Robertson step out of the car after observing him crouch toward the floorboard. Police reported that Robertson exhibited erratic behavior, dilated pupils, profuse sweating, rapid speech, and agitated movements. While he initially denied drug use, Robertson later admitted to officers that he had used cocaine.
Both Robertson and the female driver confirmed their dispute was strictly verbal. A search of a bag belonging to Robertson revealed loose white powdery residue, though field tests returned negative for methamphetamine and cocaine.
The female driver was released from the scene. Robertson, who is currently on probation for a prior felony conviction, was transported and booked into the Lawrence County Jail.
Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
