BEDFORD— A Bedford woman faces criminal charges after allegedly blocking the entrance to a local restaurant parking lot and forcefully pulling away from officers on Sunday afternoon, according to court documents from the Bedford Police Department.
Racquel L. Hudson, 55, was arrested on August 2, 2026, following a disturbance at the Denny’s restaurant in Bedford.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Sgt. Toby Gerkin, officers responded to Denny’s at approximately 12:20 p.m. after dispatch received reports of a man and a woman blocking the parking lot entrance and refusing to let vehicles pass. Restaurant management reported that the individuals refused multiple requests to leave, and that Hudson had used profanity toward staff.
Upon arrival, Sgt. Gerkin and Officer Hatton located Hudson standing directly in the restaurant’s entrance driveway, actively blocking a vehicle that was attempting to exit the premises.
Sgt. Gerkin noted in the affidavit that this marked the third interaction officers had with Hudson that day regarding erratic behavior.
After activating emergency lights, Sgt. Gerkin instructed Hudson to step out of the roadway to allow traffic to flow, but she refused.
When Sgt. Gerkin placed Hudson in handcuffs to clear the entrance, she allegedly began to forcefully pull away and refused to walk. Officers were eventually able to escort her to a police vehicle.
A witness on scene confirmed that Hudson and an unidentified male had been standing in the roadway, preventing her vehicle from exiting the lot before law enforcement’s arrival.
Officers made contact with the male across the street, who claimed he was only checking on Hudson because she was upset. He denied blocking traffic, refused to identify himself, and was subsequently released from the scene.
Hudson was transported to the Lawrence County Jail for booking. According to Officer Hatton, Hudson remained uncooperative upon arrival at the facility and had to be forcefully pulled inside.
Hudson faces the following preliminary charges in Lawrence County of obstruction of traffic and resisting law enforcement.
