Russell Dean Cox, 85, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2026.
Born December 6, 1940, he was the son of Roy and Nora (Keller) Cox. He married Linda Mae Elkins on July 9, 1960, and she survives. Russell was first in construction, working with his dad. Then later he moved and worked on house trailers. In his later years, he was a custodian with North
Lawrence Community Schools. But Russell was most known in Bedford as being the tarp guy. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed being outside in nature, mushroom hunting, feeding and watching wildlife.
Survivors include his wife Linda of Bedford; sons, Chris Cox, Jeff (Renee) Cox, Troy (Michele) Cox all of Bedford; grandchildren, Kenzi (Tyler Sykes) Cox, Kansas (Kellie) Cox, Brianna (Adam) Miller, Hannah (Patrick) Stultz, Tanna (Justin) Smock, Justin Snyder, all of Bedford, Tucker (Macall) Cox of Granger, IN; great-grandchildren, Grayson Frazier, Winston Blackwell, Riley Cox, Bristol and Journie Miller, Oakley and Stone Stultz, Lynnley and Atlas Smock, Izolla, Jameson and Kolt Snyder, and Tyler Cox. Siblings Richard (Rosemary) Cox, Diane Coulter, Carl (Rita) Cox; and his beloved dog Lizzie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Patty Cox, brother, George Cox, brother-in-law, Steve Coulter, and a granddaughter, Kia Cox.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4 th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Tom Sowders officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 3rd at Day & Carter Mortuary, and from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Tuesday.
