WILLIAMS — A Williams man faces multiple felony charges after Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies investigating a reported firearm threat allegedly discovered drugs, drug paraphernalia and multiple firearms at his residence.
According to a probable cause affidavit, officers were dispatched at approximately 6:10 a.m. July 26 to a residence on Hammersley Lane after a caller reported that a man had pointed a firearm at her head.
Officer Thomas Porter and Officer Kaden Flynn arrived and encountered 50-year-old Daniel J. McNulty standing in the driveway near a camper. Police said McNulty denied being involved in an altercation but claimed officers should instead ask the woman why she had allegedly pointed a revolver at him.
Meanwhile, Sgt. Whitney Daugherty interviewed the alleged victim. According to the affidavit, she told investigators she had been walking near McNulty’s camper when she tripped in the dark. She said McNulty emerged from the camper carrying a rifle, pointed it at her head and allegedly told her, “I told you two (expletive) that I was not moving, and you are going to die today,” before chambering a round. Branum told police she ran to a nearby mobile home because she feared for her life.
Investigators said McNulty invited officers into his camper, where they observed multiple glass smoking devices, firearm components and butane torches in plain view. He was detained while officers obtained a search warrant.
After a judge approved the warrant, deputies searched the property and reportedly recovered an unloaded .38 Special handgun, multiple glass smoking devices containing suspected drug residue, and a plastic bag containing a white crystalline substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine and fentanyl. Police said the substance had an approximate gross weight of 4 grams.
Authorities also recovered ammunition magazines inside the camper and located two rifles concealed beneath a tarp outside. One of the rifles reportedly matched the description provided by the victim. Investigators later recovered a purple SCCY 9mm handgun hidden beneath a pile of laminate flooring near the camper. The handgun contained a loaded magazine with 13 rounds of ammunition, according to the affidavit.
A criminal history check indicated McNulty had prior felony convictions, including burglary and auto theft, that investigators said qualified him as a serious violent felon prohibited from possessing firearms.
McNulty was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine or a narcotic drug, possession of paraphernalia, pointing a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, and intimidation with a deadly weapon.
The charges are allegations, and McNulty is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
