Lorene B. (Bowman) Batman, 89, of Seymour, IN, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Schneck Medical Center with her family by her side.
Born on December 27, 1936, in English, IN, she was the daughter of Roscoe and Gladys (Sturgeon) Bowman.
Lorene grew up and attended school in English, IN. She worked at Travelers Electronic Company in Orleans, IN, and then at the Ammunition Plant in Charleston, IN. Lorene married Alvin L. Batman on March 20, 1971, in Milltown, IN. They were happily married for twenty-four years until his passing in 1995.
She was a former member of Community Christian Church in Milltown, IN, and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Seymour, IN, V.F.W. Post 1925 Auxiliary in Seymour, and American Legion #332 Auxiliary in Milltown, IN. Lorene enjoyed gardening, going on Sunday afternoon drives, watching the sunset on the beaches in Michigan, her cats, and puzzles. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
Lorene is survived by her son, Walter (Jodi) Batman of Seymour, IN; her granddaughters, Hope Danielle Batman of Seymour, IN, and Kalika Eileen Batman of Lewisville, TX; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Gladys Bowman; her husband, Alvin L. Batman; her sisters, Evelyn VanWinkle, Cora Ellen Howell, Wilma Alen, June Summers, and Norma Jenkins; her brothers, Jerome Bowman, Sheldon Bowman, Harold Bowman, and Lindell Bowman.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Brown Newkirk Funeral Home, 306 Spring St., Milltown, IN 47145, with Rev. William Fredstrom officiating. Burial will follow at Union Chapel Cemetery in Milltown, IN. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Burkholder Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes in Seymour, and on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service, at the Brown Newkirk Funeral Home in Milltown, IN.
Memorial contributions may be made in Lorene’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the donor’s Choice.
