George Robert Thomas, 83, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Brown County Health and Living, Nashville, IN.
He was born February 9, 1943, in Roanoke, VA, to Steven and Elsie (Baldwin) Thomas. George married Terry Haxton February 23, 1990, and she survives. George graduated from the University of the South, earning a four-year degree in the Education of Ministry.
George served 12 years in the Fleet Marine Force as a Corpsman, did two tours in Viet Nam, and was a Senior Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy, retiring after 23 years. He was also a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Smithfield, NC.
Surviving to cherish George’s memory are his wife, Terry; son, Alec Thomas; daughter, Rhonda Michelle (Mark) Franco; step-daughters, Giselle LaVerde and Trisha Oliver; and sister, Lorene (Milo) McBryde.
Preceding George in death were his parents, Steven and Elsie Thomas; and his brother, Steven Lee Thomas.
Cremation was chosen, and there will be no services at this time. A burial at sea will take place at a later date.
