BEDFORD — A Mitchell man faces a theft charge after allegedly shoplifting more than $120 worth of merchandise from a local retail store on Tuesday afternoon.
Jake D. Paul Turner, 18, was issued a misdemeanor summons following the July 14 incident.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Bedford Police Officer Derek Blackwell responded to a theft report at a business in the 3200 block of John Williams Boulevard at approximately 1:10 p.m. Store asset protection staff reported observing Turner and a juvenile female companion via security cameras as they placed unscanned items into grocery bags at a self-checkout station.
The items, which included clothing, grocery goods, and craft supplies, totaled $123.02. Authorities said the pair bypassed all points of sale and attempted to leave through the main entrance before being stopped by store security.
All stolen merchandise was successfully recovered. Store management issued trespass warnings to both individuals, banning them from the property for one year.
The juvenile female was taken into custody by Captain Lemke and transported to the Bedford Police Department, where she was later released to her family pending a juvenile court appearance.
Turner was issued a summons to appear in Lawrence County Superior Court 1 on July 28.
