BEDFORD — The Stars Boulevard bridge has reopened to traffic following the successful completion of major repair work, according to Lawrence County Highway Superintendent Brian Sowder.
Sowder spoke with the contractor responsible for the bridge rehabilitation and confirmed the structure is now open and ready for travel.
The reopening comes after the bridge passed its required inspection, allowing motorists to once again use the route ahead of Lawrence County’s Senior Week activities.
The bridge will temporarily close for one day on Thursday, July 23, so crews can complete the final grooving of the new bridge deck.
The grooving process cuts shallow channels into the concrete surface to improve tire traction and help water drain from the bridge, enhancing safety for motorists.
Aside from the scheduled one-day closure, Sowder said the bridge will remain open to traffic while the final phase of the project is completed.
Motorists are encouraged to plan for the temporary closure on July 23 and use alternate routes during the day’s construction. Weather or construction conditions could affect the schedule if necessary.
