Lawrence County names new veterans service officers

BEDFORD The Lawrence County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the hiring of Kyleigh McPike as the county’s new Veterans Services Officer and Brandon Brummet as assistant Veterans Services Officer during its meeting Tuesday morning.

McPike, a Lawrence County native and military veteran, will succeed longtime Veterans Services Officer Brad Bough, who is retiring.

Following the unanimous vote, McPike thanked the commissioners and spoke about what the opportunity means to her.

“There is nothing I am more proud of than being the VSO for Lawrence County, because the veterans mean a lot to me,” McPike said. “Being a veteran and coming from a family of veterans, I truly appreciate the honor of this opportunity to serve the community.”

Brummet, who was also approved unanimously as assistant Veterans Services Officer, said he is eager to begin serving local veterans.

“As Kyleigh said, I want to serve my community, and being a veteran of 24 years, I am confident I can do that, and I am very excited to do that,” Brummet said.

The Lawrence County Veterans Service Office assists veterans and their families in accessing federal, state, and local benefits, including disability compensation, pensions, health care, and other services available through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

McPike and Brummet assume their new roles as the county transitions from the tenure of Bough, who has served as Veterans Services Officer and has been a familiar advocate for Lawrence County veterans throughout his time in the position.
