Lawrence County Highway Department announces full-width paving schedule for Brown Station Road

BEDFORD Commuters who utilize Brown Station Road in eastern Lawrence County should prepare for significant travel delays and partial closures later this week due to an extensive resurfacing project.

Lawrence County Highway Department Superintendent Brian Sowder announced that crews will conduct full-width paving operations on Brown Station Road on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

The targeted paving zone stretches from the intersection of Leatherwood Road and runs continuously north to U.S. Highway 50.

Highway crews are scheduled to begin applying new asphalt at approximately 7:00 a.m., starting at the Leatherwood Road side and working their way toward US 50.

While highway officials plan to have the primary operations completed by 4:00 p.m., Superintendent Sowder noted that crews will remain on-site and continue paving until the designated stretch of road is completely finished. Because the project requires full-width paving, large machinery will occupy both lanes simultaneously, heavily restricting traffic flow.

Local motorists, residents, and agricultural workers who live along Brown Station Road are advised to seek alternate routes on Thursday to avoid lengthy delays. Drivers who must travel through the area are urged to exercise extreme caution, obey all traffic flaggers, and watch for slow-moving construction equipment and workers on the roadway.
