Man riding E-Bike on I-465 struck and killed

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana State Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash involving a man riding an E-Bike on I-465. 

At 6:15 a.m. on July 5, Indiana State Police 911 Dispatchers began receiving calls about a possible body on the right side of the southbound lanes of I-465 at the 16.2-mile marker. When first responders arrived, they found an unresponsive adult male. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

Preliminary investigation has determined the man was riding an electric bicycle in the right lane of I-465 when he was struck by an unknown vehicle. Investigators believe at least two vehicles stopped in the area at the time of the incident, but neither stayed for law enforcement’s arrival. The man has been identified, and troopers are still working to locate his family for notification. 

ISP Detectives are following several leads to locate the other vehicle involved. They are also reviewing traffic cameras as well as Flock Cameras in the area. Motorists equipped with dash cameras who were in the area of I-465 near the 16-mile marker between 6:10 a.m. and 6:18 a.m. on, July 5, 2026, are asked to contact the Indiana State Police.

This is an active and ongoing investigation; anyone with information is asked to contact the Indiana State Police. Investigators believe the other vehicle involved will have front-end damage from the impact.
