PENDLETON — The Indiana State Police Pendleton District concluded its Fourth of July holiday enforcement campaign with increased patrols aimed at promoting safe travel and reducing dangerous driving behaviors along the two interstates in the district.
Over the holiday weekend, troopers focused on aggressive driving, speeding, impaired driving, seat belt compliance, and other hazardous traffic violations. Their proactive enforcement efforts resulted in numerous interactions with motorists traveling along Interstates 69 and 70.
During the enforcement period, troopers recorded the following activity:
- 211 traffic stops, including 41 conducted within construction zones
- 157 traffic citations issued
- 98 written warnings
- 5 criminal arrests
- 1 arrest for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI)
- 4 crash investigated
- 11 motorist assists
- 2 commercial motor vehicle inspections, with both vehicles placed out of service and cited for safety violations
“The Fourth of July holiday is one of the busiest travel periods of the year,” said Lieutenant Coley McCutcheon, Commander of the Indiana State Police Pendleton District. “These enforcement efforts are designed to encourage motorists to make safe and responsible decisions behind the wheel. We appreciate the vast majority of drivers who traveled safely and remind everyone that traffic safety remains a year-round priority.”
The Indiana State Police encourages motorists to always wear their seat belts, obey posted speed limits, avoid distractions while driving, never drive impaired, and use extra caution when traveling through construction zones where workers and emergency personnel may be present.
