NATIONWIDE — Federal regulators have issued a nationwide recall for more than 75,000 boxes of medicated wipes sold exclusively at CVS stores, warning that the product lacks mandatory child-resistant packaging and poses a risk of serious injury or death to young children.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that Diamond Wipes International, Inc., of Chino, California, is voluntarily recalling approximately 75,315 boxes of CVS Health Medicated Hemorrhoidal Wipes. The recall, finalized on July 2, 2026, focuses on a violation of the federal Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA).

The individually wrapped flushable wipes contain lidocaine, a potent local anesthetic frequently utilized in over-the-counter topical pain relief products. Under strict federal guidelines, any consumer product utilizing therapeutic levels of lidocaine must be distributed in child-resistant packaging to prevent accidental exposure.
Because the single-use packets can be easily torn open by toddlers, they present a significant chemical ingestion hazard. If a child swallows or chews on the medicated wipes, the lidocaine can quickly be absorbed into their system, causing systemic toxicity.
According to medical experts, symptoms of lidocaine poisoning can directly impact the central nervous and cardiovascular systems. Parents should monitor for:
- Dizziness or slurred speech
- Rapid, erratic, or irregular heartbeats
- Seizures
- Loss of consciousness
In severe cases, high doses of lidocaine ingestion can lead to fatal cardiac or respiratory arrest. Fortunately, Diamond Wipes International and CVS report that no injuries or medical emergencies have been linked to the product to date.
